Rehab uses a couple of types of cryotherapy including cold packs and Biofreeze®, a topical pain reliever. Both of these modalities help to decrease pain, inflammation, and enhance the effects of the treatment. They are also key components of our home exercise programs.
Electrical Stimulation is used to reduce pain, muscle spasm, and promote healing. Electrodes are placed on the body in various places to target specific muscle fibers. This treatment enhances the effects of our other treatments.
Functional Rehabilitation ensures optimal biomechanical and neurophysiological function with its comprehensive physical rehabilitation approach.
It is designed to adapt itself to each individuals' specific nerve, muscle and joint dysfunctions and correct them. The human body is constantly adapting to its environment experiencing an ever-changing chain of events. When one part of the body experiences a trauma, this complex set of interactions is altered once again, potentially leading to further injury and trauma in adjacent locations. These will worsen and hamper recovery if not monitored and treated concurrently with the rehabilitation of the primary injury site.
Functional Rehabilitation optimizes the patient’s experience by ensuring the implementation of a functional and reliably monitored rehab program in a first class facility. Our providers and clinical staff are devoted to accommodating an engaging chiropractic, physical therapy, and rehabilitation experience for each patient for the entire duration of their treatment plan.
Graston Technique® is an instrument assisted soft tissue treatment. It is a variation of traditional cross fiber (transverse) friction massage. The Graston Technique® consists of six stainless steel tools of various sizes and contours. The Graston Technique® is a form of treatment used to "break up" or "soften" scar tissue, thus allowing for the return of normal function in the area being treated. The beveled edge of the patented Graston Technique® Instruments combines with their concave/convex shapes to mold the instruments to various contours of the body. This design allows for ease of treatment, maximum tissue penetration in a gentle manner, and minimal stress to the clinician’s hands. The Graston Technique® Instruments, much like a tuning fork, resonate in the clinician’s hands allowing the clinician to isolate adhesions and restrictions and treat them very precisely. Since the metal surface of the instruments does not compress like the fat pads of the finger, deeper restrictions can be accessed and treated. When explaining the properties of the instruments, we often use the analogy of a stethoscope. Just as a stethoscope amplifies what the human ear can hear, so do the instruments increase significantly what the human hands can feel.
Kinesio® Taping Method involves utilizing a special elastic-like tape over and around muscles and/or joints in order to assist and give support to affected tissues as well as to prevent over-contraction. Basically, there are times when the muscles are in spasm (too tight) or too weak and applying the tape to these areas can make patients feel immediately better. It can also be applied to support a joint, tendon, or ligament — all in the name of pain relief. While most people think of tape as a restrictor of motion, this type is designed to support and facilitate normal motion. With this method the patient can still be a full participant in the activities which he or she desires, just with a bit of aid. Just ask Olympic, professional, collegiate, and amateur athletes of all sports how helpful it can be! Our doctors are fully trained in this cutting edge method in an effective capacity.
We have licensed and certified Massage Therapists in our clinics to provide various types of massage from Swedish to Deep Tissue to traditional Therapeutic Massages.

Myofascial Release is a whole body, hands on approach to treatment, producing a profound healing effect upon the body tissues, eliminating pain and restoring motion. Charleston Chiropractic Company doctors develop treatment plans that are individualized and customized to each person’s needs. They treat the “cause of the problem” to eliminate the symptoms, in order to make permanent structural changes to help people return to a pain free, active lifestyle.
There are two types of myofascial release: direct and indirect.
Charleston Chiropractic Company has doctors who are trained in Active Release Technique® (ART®) which requires advanced training in order to identify and treat the involved tissues more effectively.
Charleston Chiropractic Company offers the most comprehensive neuro-musculoskeletal care, through a combination of various treatment options.
Our doctors our highly trained in spinal manipulations and mobilizations, which can increase motion to the joints and decrease pain. A manipulation, which is normally but not always applied to the spine, utilizes a quick but gentle maneuver, to enable movement in joints with decreased range of motion, thereby decreasing pain. Joint mobilization is similar to manipulation, but it is not as quick as a manipulation. It is still very effective at increasing motion in joints with limited range of motion.
Trigger point therapy is a bodywork technique that involves the applying of pressure to tender muscle tissue in order to relieve pain and dysfunction in other parts of the body. Sometimes massage and trigger point therapy are performed together. The purpose of trigger point therapy is to eliminate pain and to re-educate the muscles into pain-free habits. After several treatments, the swelling and stiffness of neuromuscular pain is reduced, range of motion is increased, tension is relieved, and circulation, flexibility and coordination are improved.
Who can benefit from this? Chronic pain patients that have tried it all. Athletic populations that have good overall health but have a specific recurring injury. Elderly people as it is a safe and drug free way to relieve pain or anyone with pain and dysfunction!
